Meet Jennie Ing, a Salvation Army employee for 59 years.
Jennie Ing retired in January after 59 years of employment with The Salvation Army as the Executive Assistant to the Divisional Commander in the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division. Here she shares more about her work.
How do you explain what you do to someone unfamiliar with your work?
I read and tried to learn all about The Salvation Army and the services provided. I tell others that it entails working with the community and people of all walks of life. To current employees: keep the faith, know and appreciate people, always care for each other, be committed and enjoy your work.
What is your earliest memory of connecting with The Salvation Army?
A family member’s mother was assisted by The Salvation Army in getting her mother from China to Hawaii.
What is one way you identify with what The Salvation brand promises?
I believe we are “Doing the Most Good.” We are here to serve people around the world and not only to say The Salvation Army is the best, but that we are doing the most good in service to the community and its people. As it’s said, “sharing is caring.”
What are you planning in retirement?
I will continue in service to the community and as a soldier of The Salvation Army to do the most good as the need arises. I thank God and The Salvation Army for the opportunity to work for a fine organization.
