World Service dollars meet needs ‘above and beyond’

Generous giving by soldiers and officers throughout the West has resulted in a total of $6,873,939 World Service dollars given to help those in need around the world.

In addition to World Service giving, additional funds–given above and beyond–were raised in numerous locations to meet specific needs.

“As a result of the Heart Connection emphasis, some divisions have initiated projects over and above their World Service goals,” reports Missions Department Secretary Lt. Colonel Janice Buchanan.

“The Del Oro Division is in the last phase of a faith-based project to build a $265,000 replacement facility that is severely needed for The Salvation Army Girls’ Home in Palu, Indonesia. The dedication of the new home is planned for July 27, 2002. At their Family Bible Camp, the Intermountain Division raised $5,451 for sound equipment to help the Volgograd, Russia Corps develop their program for evangelism through music. In addition, the Salt Lake City Corps raised $15,000 to purchase a tractor for a self-reliance farming project in Zdvorka Village of Ukraine.”
