Academy award-winning actress Shirley Jones will join the cast of “On A Hill Far Away” in presenting Territorial Headquarters’ Good Friday drama this year.

In the role of Mary Magdalene, Ms. Jones will narrate the one-hour program which re-enacts, in music and drama, the events of the Passion Week.

Known to many as “Mrs. Partridge” from the hit television series The Partridge Family, Shirley Jones made her acting and singing debut on Broadway with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. Roles in such stage and screen classics as Oklahoma!, Carousel, The Music Man, and Elmer Gantry, to name just a few, followed.

“Shirley Jones is a long-time friend and supporter of The Salvation Army and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her in this meaningful way,” says Captain Donna Ames, coordinator of this year’s program. “This is a treat not only for us but for the whole community.”

Beyond Shirley Jones’ live narration and vocal solo, highlights of this year’s performance will be a beautiful musical score including choral and solo pieces performed by the cadets from the College for Officer Training, live animals, and special pre-recorded segments by Robert Goulet, world-renowned star of stage and screen.

As always, the community is encouraged to come and enjoy “On A Hill Far Away.” The program will begin at 12:00 noon on Good Friday, April 10, and will be followed by the traditional serving of bread and broth at 1:00 p.m.

Last year, more than 800 people attended the presentation.
