Recently troops of the Del Oro Division converged on Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif. for a Salvation Army Youth (SAY) Rally, with over 385 Sunbeams, Girl Guards, Explorers, Rangers, youth leaders and corps officers of the Del Oro Division participating.

Newly appointed Divisional Youth and Candidates’ Secretary Captain Shevaun Malone led an opening assembly. She asked God’s blessing on the day’s events and prayed that his grace and wisdom would continue to sustain the SAY programs of the Del Oro Division. Afterwards she threw candy into the crowd. This caused such a ruckus that a giant Korean banana showed up. Giving no indication that a giant banana was in any way weird, Malone continued on with the rally.

Banana Man was asked to step aside as the Sunbeams, Girl Guards, and Adventure Corps members recited their pledges and mottos. Malone closed the time with a devotional thought based on Matthew 6:33. She challenged the youth to remember that as great as Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is, they need to seek God’s Kingdom and his righteousness above all else. After the assembly, everyone enjoyed lunch served from a Salvation Army canteen from Sacramento County, followed by a fun-filled afternoon at the theme park.
