“Serving Youth…Transforming Lives” earns big praise at 2009 Telly Awards.

Territorial Commander Commissioner Philip Swyers accepted the Telly Award—three of them, in fact—on behalf of The Salvation Army Major Gifts department for its production of the DVD entitled, Serving Youth…Transforming Lives. Twelve-time Telly Award winning director David Bojorquez of Vision4Media, producer of the DVD, presented the awards during a chapel service at territorial headquarters on Nov. 10.

A prestigious honor, the Telly Award recognizes the very best in local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, and the finest film and video productions. Serving Youth…Transforming Lives won two bronze Tellys in the categories of “Fund Raising” and “Broadcast Production.” Additionally, it earned the Classic Telly in the category of “Charitable/Not-for-profit.” The highly coveted Classic Telly is a particularly significant achievement as it was created to celebrate the Telly Awards’ 30th anniversary, which included special categories added to honor work produced in the last 30 years. Winners of the Classic Telly receive the Classic Gold Telly Award statuette and certificate that is available only during the Telly’s anniversary year.

As one DVD in a four-part series, Serving Youth…Transforming Lives was designed as a professional tool to support the cultivation of major donors and prospects, offering them the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged boys and girls in their community. Through the unscripted dialogue of youth impacted by Salvation Army programs, Serving Youth captures the ministry of The Salvation Army and demonstrates its strength of mission and passion to give kids a chance in life. In fact, Bojorquez’s own relationship with the Army dates back to his early years. A native of Long Beach, California, Bojorquez received food and Christmas toys from The Salvation Army when he was a boy.

“This set of DVDs has proven an invaluable tool for our professional major gift officers,” said Bob Gregg, territorial financial development director. “The Telly award acknowledges that they express so clearly, with such emotional surety, the life transforming results of those involved in carrying out the Army’s mission. There can be no question on the part of anyone seeing them as to the outcomes in real lives and the opportunity to support that in ways that are important to the donor.”
