The Denver Red Shield recently hosted the USA Amateur Regional Championship boxing show. With more than 500 spectators in attendance, 52 boxers from Minnesota, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado participated in 26 qualifying matches.

The Salvation Army was well represented by six members of Denver Red Shield’s Cox-Lyle boxing program. Under the tutoring of boxing Hall of Fame Heavyweight Ron Lyle, a Denver native and member of Red Shield Corps, the Red Shield was victorious in all of its matches.

All six boxers will now advance to the National Championships to be held in Kansas City, September 23rd through the 25th.

The event was such a success that Denver Red Shield has been asked to host the 2006 USA Amateur Colorado State Championships in March.
