Alfred L. Newbould
of Henderson, NV, was promoted to Glory on Sept. 30, 2001. He was born December 4, 1927.

Al was born in Marshfield, OR (Coos Bay) to Salvation Army officer parents, Eric and Martha Newbould. After graduating from Brown Military Academy in 1945, he served briefly in the U.S. Navy and then attended the University of Hawaii and the Univ. of Washington. In 1953 he graduated from the U of WA Law School, second in his class.

Al enjoyed a long career with the city of Seattle. Starting as a law clerk in 1953, he became corporation council in 1963; in 1971 he was elected president of The National Institute of Municipal Law Officers.

In 1974 Al changed course and became an auxiliary captain in The Salvation Army. He served in Montana, Idaho, Oregon and California. While serving in Salem, OR, Al met Alice and they were married in 1977.

He returned to law in 1977, working in private practice until his retirement in 1983. He then pursued hobbies, including sports cars, boating, fishing, and travelling. He was a Salvation Army band enthusiast. In the final months of his life Al recommitted himself to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Al is survived by his wife Alice, sister Martha, stepmother Helga, four children: Eric, Maryann Covert, Philip, and Captain Nancy Helms, stepchildren Pamela and Dwight, and 12 grandchildren. He was the brother-in-law of Lt. Colonel Ardis Newbould.

The funeral service was held October 6 at the Davis Funeral Home in Las Vegas. Major Gordon Helms and Capt. Mark Gilden officiated.
