Territorial Business Conference

Wealth of information causes overload for IT Delegates.

by Clarence White –

When “information” is your department’s first name that is what you can expect to receive! Delegates’ heads are still spinning from the amount and variety of material covered in the jam-packed agenda.

As part of the conference, each divisional IT director showcased a major development in their division. Walt Robertson, IT director for the Southern California Division, assumed the character of an old-time southern revival preacher, and “preached” a number of IT best practices he has learned. His over-the-top delivery will no doubt become Business Conference legend!

Special guest speaker Mark Calleran, Information Technology (IT) manager from Salvation Army International Headquarters in London, described Army IT work around the world. This enabled delegates to see the Western Territory IT department as part of a globally connected organization.

Clarence White, Western Territory IT secretary and chief information officer, shared the big news of the conference in the opening workshop. White announced a pilot project, the success of which could change the way IT is organized in the Western Territory. During the pilot project, THQ IT staff will work with the staff of the Cascade and Southwest divisions, forming a single IT department.

If the pilot works as planned, all 13 divisional and command IT departments will be consolidated into one department, responsible for the technology needs of the whole territory.
