Still basking in the exhilaration over the results of the most successful fashion show fund-raiser event in its history, the Women’s Auxiliary of Honolulu recently installed its new officers for the year 2001.

“Thank heaven for people like you,” said Lt. Colonel Jan Mowery, director of women’s organizations, as she recognized and thanked the outgoing and incoming officers.

The officers include: Bette Stillwell, president; Karen Russell, 1st vice president; Betty Lou Nobriga, 2nd vice president; Arlene Nelson, financial secretary; Grace Cline, recording secretary; and Donna Kelsey, corresponding secretary. They were installed by Colonel Esther Sather, territorial league of mercy secretary.

Members approved the allocation of funds to help support various programs. The funds were the proceeds from the successful April fashion show which netted close to $13,000 and which generated the largest number of guests in its 14-year history. Some of the auxiliary’s plans for its financial support include purchasing musical instruments to help maintain the youth music and arts program, purchasing a computer and printer to help process youth camp activities, and adding more tricycles to the existing fleet needed at the preschool facility.

Last year, members generously provided nearly 1,200 volunteer hours to assist in various programs and activities that helped promote the work of the Army in the community.
