“Dive into Christmas”

Listen to this article

Although skydiving wasn’t on his “bucket list,” Oceanside (Calif.) Corps Officer Lt. Jay Koebel did think it would be a unique way to attract attention to the corps’ Red Kettle, toy and food drive programs. He contacted Tsunami Skydivers to schedule his “Dive into Christmas” for Dec. 1. Accompanying Koebel were Fox News, CBS Channel 8 and onlookers who donated canned foods, toys or cash to watch the event. Koebel—in full uniform—jumped at 3:30 p.m. His dive generated two barrels of food, three barrels of toys, and $2,163. Oceanside Airport donated the use of its grounds. Tsunami Skydivers donated the jump.
