Del Oro Camp Finds Unity in Praise

“Unite and praise”–that’s the counterattack maneuver to the old war tactic, “divide and conquer.” When used to rally troops for encouragement, training, and commitment, this tactic is best expressed by the chorus, “Let Us Come Together, Praise the Name of Jesus,” the theme of the 1999 Del Oro Family Camp. Held recently at Diamond Arrow Christian Conference Center just outside Nevada City, Calif., the event drew officers and soldiers alike, singles as well as families, and a broad age range of campers for the weekend.

Visiting leaders Colonels William and Marion Ratcliff of Canada easily invaded the hearts of the “Del Oroites” as they had some years ago with Divisional Leaders Lt. Colonels Charles and April Strickland. Ratcliff quickly ignited fires of unity by sparking reminders that the Body of Christ may differ, but should never divide, for Christ in common keeps us together. Uniting the camp in praising the Name of Jesus were musical guests Mike and Jenny Clark, UK territorial evangelists. The combined talents of the Clarks brought the crowd together in roars of laughter as well as empathetic tears.

The weekend camp provided encouragement while challenging commitment within the ranks at every level. A variety of workshops enabled “warriors” to store up ammunition of future battles. Friends and family members coming together for fun and fellowship on Saturday afternoon joined in commitment on Sunday morning. Some results of this “unite and praise” tactic were evidenced before the altar, and others remain to be seen on the battlefront.
