Sierra del Mar teen grows through leadership opportunities.

When asked the question on her application, “Why do you want to be a part of the summer vacation Bible school team?” Brittany Johnson, 15, answered, “I want to teach children the great miracles of Christ Jesus and what he has done for us.”

And certainly Jesus has done much in the life of Brittany! She is a young lady who loves the Lord with all her heart and serves him faithfully. At her corps, San Diego Centre City, she and her sisters Lucille and Antoinette teach Sunday school and junior soldiers. She is active in her corps’ ministry to the homeless and is a corps cadet.

During her service on the summer VBS team, she and her other team members taught hundreds of young people how much Jesus loves them. Being on the summer VBS team changed Brittany’s life! She says, “Being on the VBS team helped me to open up my personality. I’m not as shy anymore and not afraid to get up there and do stuff. God taught me to do your best and not be scared to talk to people about him and what he has done for us.”

Brittany tries her very best to witness to her friends at school as well, and is a member of her school’s Christian Club. Her corps officer, Captain Thom Poochigian, says, “Despite the difficulties she encounters in her life, Brittany does her very best in the eyes of the Lord. She sees a need in our corps, especially in the youth programs, and fills in where needed—and I appreciate that! We just love her!”
