The Sierra del Mar Division’s youth rally, “Brave,” brought over 400 people together at Mulligan’s Family Fun Center in Murrieta, Calif.

The Disney movie “Brave” inspired the rally’s theme as did Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Fifteen of the division’s 17 corps were represented at the rally, along with Pine Summit Camp.

Rally activities included games, songs and an Irish jig in keeping with the day’s theme, performed by Captain Osei Stewart, Captain Jerry Esqueda, Major David Allen and Major Butch Soriano. In the only performance by a corps, three girls from Oceanside—Nyuana Cargill, Ariel Costello and Antoinette Ancrum—danced a hip-hop number.

Glory Soriano from San Diego Citadel, and Alyssa Rodenas and Zamarjhae Baines from San Bernardino Citadel received the Commissioner’s Sunbeam award.

“My favorite thing was watching two of my Sunbeams receive their Commissioner’s Sunbeam Awards, because that’s a tangible reward

for all of the hard work and commitment they put in for years,” Sunbeam leader Kelly Raabe said.

Brittnie Pemberton from the San Diego Kroc Corps said that her favorite part of the rally was experiencing “the energy of God, and the comfort from family all around me.”

Assistant Territorial Youth Secretary Captain Paula Wild brought the message, reminding us that God has called us to be brave in all we do for Christ.
