Teams set to depart after Commissioning.

by Jim Sparks –

Twenty-five young adults will serve the nations this summer as part of The Salvation Army Service Corps program. The teams will meet for orientation at Camp Mt. Crags the week prior to Commissioning, and participate in events throughout Commissioning weekend. They will then depart on June 14 to their host countries and states of Fiji, Mexico, Philippines, Alaska, Pohnepei, and Marshall Islands.

While abroad, the teams will participate in a variety of ministries. Please pray for these soldiers throughout this experience—their lives will be forever changed.

Fiji—The team will land in Suva and get straight to work. With guidance from local Army leaders, the team will divide its time among four corps and three social service centers. They will participate in corps ministries and programs and help with some projects involving manual labor.

Mexico—The team will spend its first two weeks working in a children’s home in Veracruz and assist with activities at the Alvarado Corps. They will then travel to the Tampico children’s home for another two-week stay. Following that, they will spend one week in Acapulco for the Territorial Youth Congress. They will finish their trip at the Cuernavaca children’s home and the Xochitepec Corps.

Philippines—The team will split its time between two divisions (Central Philippine Division and Northern Luzon Division). They will be leading children’s ministry programs, working in the Bethany and Joyville Homes (both house abused and street children), do some manual labor projects to give the school a new look, and finally, visit the Community for Evangelism Ministry.

Alaska—The team will travel throughout Southeast Alaska and run vacation Bible school (VBS) programs with the host corps. When not doing VBS and participating in regularly scheduled corps programs, they will help take care of some labor projects as assigned by the corps officer.

Pohnpei/Marshall Islands—The team will split its time between Pohnpei and the Marshall Islands. They will participate in corps ministry programs, VBS, street ministry and service projects.

Service Corps is for young adults 18-25 who want to serve and love others. This could mean abroad or in your backyard. If you are interested in Service Corps, check out SAYCONNECT.com for more information.
