The Territorial Youth Chorus (TYC) ministered in Mesa, Ariz., Feb. 26-28, 2010. Northwest Divisional Music Director Matt Woods led us.

We arrived Thursday night and spent some time talking and catching up. On Friday we woke up early to practice, brushing up on songs we already knew and learning some new pieces.

Saturday afternoon we played at a mobile home retirement community. Saturday night was our big event: joining the Mesa Corps Band for a concert at the Mesa Convention Center. The evening’s theme was “Sanctuary,” which set a reverent mood for the musical presentation. The spirit of God was present.

“The thing that made the TYC stand out was that they were not just singing lyrics, but truly worshiping the Lord,” Major Susan Nute—Mesa corps officer with her husband Michael—said.

On Sunday we sang for the Mesa Corps congregation. The Sunday morning message reflected the song we sang during the time of commitment: “When we cannot see our way, I will trust and still obey.” This was our last time performing together until June.

The theme of trusting in Christ dominated the weekend. TYC representatives Hanna Danielson (Pasadena Tabernacle Corps, Calif.) and Mallory Chin (Asian American Yerba Buena Corps, San Francisco, Calif.) shared their testimonies about trusting God in spite of suffering and uncertainties.

“The TYC delighted us with their singing but also the way they interacted with those to whom they sang, especially at the RV Resort. The brass playing was awesome,” Ralph Pearce, Southwest divisional music director, said.
