Christmas is a busy time for Salvationist musicians and artists. Even people who normally hate a brass band want you to play at their kettle!
We are busy from before Thanksgiving right up until Christmas Day itself. Kettle playing, Christmas plays, singing company musicals, large-scale public events—you name it—we are asked to do it!
Around a kettle, music plays an important role around a kettle. If there is music, the total for that kettle will be significantly more than if there is just the bell ringing.
Our contribution is more than just musical. Many people come and chat, often recalling stories of how The Salvation Army has helped their families over the years—and is still doing so. We want to communicate the gospel message—not just ask for money and feel good about it.
We need to remind folks that Jesus is not just for “the season” but can be an important part of their lives all year round. Two contributors to Salvation Army vocal music do just that—as you will see below…
Gift-wrapped love
Wrapping gifts and buying candy takes up so much time,
We enjoy the carol singers’ merry Christmas rhyme;
But the reason for the season we make clear and plain:
With the birth of Christ our Savior, hope is born again.
