The Salvation Army Sun Cities West Valley Corps Community Center recently provided families in need in the west Phoenix metro area with back-to-school clothing for the 12th consecutive year.

Around 40 volunteers—including personnel from Luke Air Force Base—helped more than 400 kids shop at the Walmart Peoria Supercenter.

Each school-aged child received a $75 gift card, which was made possible by local donors, to shop for clothing and shoes. Walmart management offered additional discounts to enable families to increase their purchasing power.

The same families came to the corps the next day to receive backpacks filled with school supplies. This was made possible by the annual Backpack SOS school supply drive in Arizona with Fry’s Food Stores, FOX 10 Phoenix, Bank of Arizona, 99.9 KEZ, and American Express, and funds given by generous community donors.
