On Sunday, Feb. 21, Colonels William and Susan Harfoot, chief secretary and secretary for women’s ministries respectively, participated in a celebration at the Salem Kroc Corps and Community Center. The Chief Secretary enrolled 12 new senior soldiers, 12 new junior soldiers and an adherent, Christina Reyes. The Harfoots also dedicated two babies, Joyleyn Bossy and Samuel Ontiveros. Jose Ontiveros was commissioned as an envoy with responsibility for Latino Ministries.

Senior soldiers are Maria Falcon, Lazaro Falcon, Linda Freeman, Maria Kory Ibarra, Michelle Ibarra, Miguel Ibarra, Maria Lopez, Erendire Maravillas, Joanna Patricio, Marta Regalado, Juan Jose Vielmann, and Concepcion Zazueta.

Junior soldiers are Jesse Arredondo, Rolando Arrendondo, Adrian Falcon, Daniel Falcon, Monica Ibarra, Angel Lopez, Guadalupe Lopez, Jesus Regalado Coria, Emanuel Ruiz-Tolendno, Laura Ester Ruiz Tolendano, Jose Alberto Valverde, and Kylie Wiederman.

In the five months since the transition from Salem Citadel to Salem Kroc, the corps has experienced steady growth. Three separate services each Sunday offer a choice of worship styles (contemporary, traditional and Spanish language), but are all one corps. Sunday school and mid-week activities are a combination of both united and separate English and Spanish language activities. A quarterly united service, like the one held Feb. 21, brings everyone together. On that Sunday, there were 298 in attendance not counting the 55 who attended the early contemporary service.

Soldiers and local officers have worked hard to create a seamless spiritual ministry throughout the Kroc Center. “The corps is the Kroc and the Kroc is the corps” is an often-repeated phrase.

Majors Jerry and Donna Ames are the corps officers in Salem, assisted by Envoys Dan and Kathy Reichmann and Jose Ontiveros.
