National Salvation Army Week to be launched with band’s visit.
Western Salvationists and friends will have an opportunity to hear the New York Staff Band (NYSB) May 11-14 when The Salvation Army presents “Celebrate at the Ambassador Auditorium” in Pasadena, as the band takes part in an “all California” music councils, and in a concert at the Concord Community Church in Concord, Calif.
Toronto reporter Pat Herak indicates that the NYSB—now in its 120th year of ministry—recently gave an outstanding performance in that city, commenting, “They were in top form; it was a most impressive concert. In a packed auditorium, the band performed a varied and enjoyable concert.”
Music Councils and Celebrate
On Saturday, May 12 the NYSB, with trumpeter, Allen Vizzutti and soprano soloist, Annika Scutt, will present clinics—open to the public—at the music councils. They will be joined by the Pasadena Tabernacle Youth Chorus at Saturday evening’s “Celebrate” concert.
Vizzutti has performed on more than 100 motion picture soundtracks, (such as Back To The Future and Star Trek) and on recordings with Sinatra, Streisand, Doc Severinsen, the NBC Tonight Show Band and Woody Herman. As a classical and jazz soloist he has appeared with major symphony orchestras, and made solo performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center in New York City.
Scutt, born in Stockholm, has traveled throughout Europe as a soloist and works with youth in London, her current home. Scutt will lead gospel music performance and choral classes at the music councils.
