Turner wins water conservation contest

Captain Terrance Wright, Casa Grande, Ariz., corps officer, reports that 6th-grader Jared Turner, 12, won a contest held by Central Arizona College for water conversation. “Jared is homeschooled, and used our computer lab to research his project for the contest,” said Wright. “The rules of the contest are that the winner receives a $1,000 scholarship and the school they attend gets a brand new Dell computer. Since Jared was homeschooled and did his research here, the corps got the Dell computer.”

AAYBC sends Hy to China

Majors Ron and Keilah Toy, Asian American Yerba Buena (AAYBC) corps officers, San Francisco, have announced the short-term mission assignment of Chi Hy to serve from February 21 to August 8, 2007, at the Kowloon East Corps in Hong Kong. “The AAYBC family is proud of our missionaries and we pray for God’s protection, wisdom and guidance as Chi embarks on this new journey,” said Major Ron Toy.

“Trade boutique” is coming

The Crestmont campus will soon be home to Resource Connection’s “trade boutique,” which will have a select number of products including shirts, blouses, Salvation Army books, music and more. Hours of operation will be limited, with some ability to accommodate special events. Watch future issues of New Frontier for additional information.

Ime Udoka likes Moore Street

The Willamette Week, a major paper in Portland, Ore., recently did a feature article on Portland Trailblazer Ime Udoka. The article focused on Ime’s rating of the basketball gyms he likes to play in; Ime listed the Moore Street gym as the place that he played every day growing up. In addition, the Moore Street Corps was on KPTV Channel 12 on Good Day Oregon. Live segments were broadcast, since the Harlem Globetrotters were at Moore Street practicing and warming up for their game at the Rose Garden in Portland. They interacted with Moore Street kids and really made an impact.
