Recently Camp Del Oro was the recipient of $100,000 earmarked for the endowment portion of its capital campaign. Robert Gall gave a check to begin the “Robert E. Gall Summer Campership Endowment Fund” that will specifically cover 50 percent camperships for the children of Butte County and 50 percent to the operation of Camp Del Oro.

Gall grew up in Chico and Paradise and experienced camp as a youngster. He claims that the great activities, the community and friendships, and the life lessons learned at camp changed his life. He doesn’t want kids to miss the opportunity of creating memories for a lifetime.

When asked for the rationale of his gift, Gall commented as follows:
When I became aware that The Salvation Army had acquired and was remodeling a camp for children in Northern California and was providing assistance for children to attend the camp, my choice was easy. It has always been my view that The Salvation Army’s programs and administration were the best. To my knowledge, the Army has never been associated with waste, and more significantly, programs and other undertakings appeared designed to benefit staff as well as the intended beneficiaries.

It is my goal to provide a means for children to attend a camp and to provide financial assistance where necessary. I wanted to find a way for children to experience camp lifestyle with its many exciting activities and, of course, the many attendant friendships. After exploring several options, I found that The Salvation Army, in my opinion, was by far the best.

The Del Oro Division is extremely grateful to Bob Gall for his kind and generous gift that will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children in the years to come.
