Kudos to Kroc
The Nickelodeon Parent’s Pick Award for best theater or theatre group for kids in San Diego, Calif., went to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center’s Joan B. Kroc Theatre and Performing Arts Center, for “the troupe that gives the liveliest performance, keeping even the squirmiest kids entertained.”
Kona women pray
Major Jonnette Mulch, Hawaiian & Pacific Islands divisional women’s ministries secretary, reports Kona, Hawaii, Home League members have made prayer an important element in their lives. The women formed “prayer triplets” (groups of three women who are prayer partners), and selected three names of unsaved people and pray for them, as well as for each other. Majors George and Florence Rodriguera are corps officers.
Southwest touches souls
Home League members in the Southwest Division are reaching out to their communities. “During the last quarter, 21 women have enrolled as senior soldiers, 56 adherents joined the ranks, and 90 families linked to the corps,” notes Territorial Women’s Ministries Director Major Mariam Rudd. Captain Christine Morales is divisional women’s ministries director.
Gresham Soroptomists give generously
The Gresham, Ore., corps is one step closer completing its new facility, designed to provide services including food assistance, worship opportunities, and after school activities, with a gift of $20,000 from the Soroptomist International of Gresham. The check was presented to Corps Officer Major James Sullivan and Youth Director Lorrie Davis.
Carson City connects with governor
Carson City, Nev. Corps Officers Captain Erica Helton and Lt. Heather Paap met with Nevada State Governor Jim Gibbons recently to discuss ways in which The Salvation Army is networking with other agencies to help the public during these tough economic times
Congratulations
Intermountain Divisional Youth Secretary Captain Raymond Erickson-King has earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Corban College.
Captain David Kauffman, Tucson Amphi, Ariz., corps officer, has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from California Coast College.
New appointment
Lt. Colonel Evelyn Hunter has been appointed Acting Territorial Education Secretary, effective October 6, 2009.
