IT Secretary designated a premier leader.

The western territory’s information technology department was for the third year named in Computerworld’s InformationWeek 500 list of the most technologically innovative companies; ranked this year168th.

Computerworld is the leading source of technology news and information for IT influencers worldwide with over a million readers of its weekly publication.

Additionally, the West’s CIO and IT Secretary Clarence White was selected from nearly 800 nominees as a 2008 Premier 100 IT Leader honoree.

Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders Awards Program honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees demonstrate the ability to foster creativity and challenging work environments, envision fresh approaches to business challenges and effectively manage IT investments.

“I am humbled to receive this kind of personal recognition because I know that significant achievements are rarely the result of a single individual’s effort,” White said. “I am the beneficiary of a perfect storm of visionary leadership and superb staff who together have accomplished amazing things to further the mission of the Army.”

White was instrumental in developing the Ministry Snapshot, an application that draws data from a number of sources and applies statistical methods, weighting and scoring algorithms to produce summary measures of the operating efficiency of each corps in graphical form. First deployed in 2005, the application has since undergone several updates.

“This year’s class of Honorees is characterized by a diversity that demonstrates the value of unique backgrounds and approaches in building an outstanding IT organization,” said Scot Finnie, editor-in-chief, Computerworld. “Yet what these individuals have in common is an expertise born of hard work and an intangible leadership quality they can tap to successfully champion IT not only as a business enabler, but as a business influencer.”
