Warm clothing donated by fans of the USAF basketball team

By Ron McKinney, Captain—

The Air Force Academy (Colo.) Falcons men’s basketball team invited fans to participate in a special event to collect coats and winter clothing for men, women and youth in need on Nov. 28.

The Falcons teamed up with The Salvation Army Denver Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) to provide strategic “ground support” by hosting a cold weather clothing drive at Clune Arena on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy.

Air Force Athletics’ Marketing Manager Matt Swearington and Denver ARC Community Affairs Manager Captain Ron McKinney—along with several beneficiaries of the Denver ARC program—greeted donors as they entered to watch the High Flying Air Force Falcons men’s basketball team take on the Jackson State Tigers, depositing clothing into two donation boxes located on each side of the arena. The Falcons also provided 20 tickets that enabled the beneficiaries of the Denver ARC program to enjoy the game.

Matt and the Academy staff were so impressed with the event and the professional manner in which it was held, they have invited The Salvation Army Denver ARC to a repeat clothing drive in November 2013 at the Air Force vs. Army football game.
