“You are part of an organization that stretches across the world,” stated Territorial Youth Secretary Captain Kyle Smith, guest speaker, at the Torrance Corps annual Partners in Service Awards Luncheon. The event, led by Corps Officer Captain Ivan Wild, honors those who volunteer for the corps’ ministries.

Smith reflected on the cycle of volunteerism—how today’s beneficiary may become tomorrow’s volunteer. “Every volunteer counts,” he said, “because someone’s life is touched.”

Volunteers recognized were Adeline Schult—HIS House, Doris Herzog—Adult Day Care, Richard Chung—Pre-School, Erin Elinson—After School Club, David Chung—Pre-School, and Nam Yong-Sun—Torrance Corps/Torrance Korean Corps.

“Good Neighbor” awards, all for service to the Adult Day Care, went to: the Volunteer Center, Marilyn Baker, and the Lions Club.

Ed and Olga Gilroy received special recognition for their years of service on the advisory board.

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd received the 2005 Katy Geissert Helping Hands Award. Among other acts of service, they performed an “extreme makeover” on HIS House, where those in need can receive food and assistance with rent and utilities.
