Visionaries Session to be commissioned June 9-11.

Salvationists and friends: Mark your calendars for June 9-11, 2006 and plan to be at the Commissioning weekend events which will include many opportunities for worship and fellowship under the theme, “Vision For Mission.”

It all begins on Friday with the morning Commencement exercises for the Visionaries session of cadets at the College for Officer Training at Crestmont in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Afterward, the whole family will want to stay for a “Celebrate the Family – Fiesta,” complete with picnic lunch and fun for all ages. Children and youth will enjoy activities like gospel magic, a rock climbing wall and inflatable games. Adults can look forward to fellowship with other Salvationists as they enjoy performances by music and worship arts groups from around the territory, such as the Seattle Temple Band, Hawaiian hula and a drama group from the Golden State division. The Museum of the West will also be open for those interested in learning about over 120 years of the Army’s work in the West.

Also scheduled for that afternoon at Crestmont are the final rounds of the Territorial Bible Bowl competition, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Nine divisional teams made up of teens who have diligently studied the books of Romans and James will play off to determine the territorial champion. The top two teams will compete for the championship at 4:30 p.m. in the Crestmont chapel.

The day will be capped off with a family barbecue dinner followed by a praise meeting featuring special guest leaders Commissioners Earle and Wilma Maxwell (R) and Christian composer and recording artist Sara Groves.

Following Friday’s events, childcare will be available for children up to age 11 beginning with Saturday evening’s Gospel Arts Celebration and continuing with Sunday’s Commissioning and Ordination Service and Service of Appointments in Cerritos, Calif. The cost will be $5.00 per child per meeting, and pre-registration is required. Child care registration forms can be found on the back of the commissioning ticket order forms which will be available soon from your corps officer.
