Commissioner John Busby,
national commander

The national commander, Commissioner John Busby, led the several thousand delegates of the Republican National Convention in prayer during the third evening of the party’s meeting in Philadelphia to select its nominee for the office of President of the United States. His wife, Commissioner Elsie Busby, accompanied him on the platform. The following is excerpted from his prayer.

“God of our founding fathers, and our God too, who has made and preserved this great nation, we lift our hearts to you in thanksgiving for those who have gone before us–those who pledged their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honor for this good land. Make us to know that the God who guided them is still the God of their sons and daughters.

“Lift us up. Set our feet upon a high place, knowing your strength and courage, your peace and love, your safety in our homes and in our world. Give us wisdom and discernment to pledge allegiance to direct our nation to truth and to guide our families to a transforming faith that will both shape us individually and shape the character of our country.

“Help us to enhance our position by deepening our resolve to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”
