Live Christmas nativity celebrates Christ’s birth

Live scenes will tell the Christmas story at Crestmont College.



The Salvation Army’s Crestmont College Campus will, for the sixth year in a row, provide the setting for the “Light of the World” holiday festival of lights and drive-through live nativity.

This annual event, enjoyed by thousands throughout the South Bay area, will be held Friday December 15th and Saturday, December 16th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This year, seven local churches will join the Army in celebrating and sharing with the community the true meaning of Christmas.

Over 25,000 feet of Christmas lights will decorate the campus, while five sky trackers illuminate the nighttime sky. Additionally, seven separate scenes from the Christmas story, featuring live actors and animals, will be presented along the viewing route.

To narrate the tour, an audio cassette (or CD) featuring music of the season and the voices of celebrity guests including Orson Welles, William Conrad, Gregory Peck, Greer Garson and Kenny Rogers will be provided to the driver of each vehicle.

“Joining with the local congregations to present this special gift to the community is what Christmas is all about,” says event coordinator Major Rudy Hedgren.

“‘Light of the World’ has become a holiday tradition here on the peninsula, and we’re delighted to be a part of it. Response to this event has been wonderful, with increased attendance each year. We welcome all to attend this unique and meaningful Christ-mas celebration.”

Come share in this community celebration of the season. The event is free of charge and open to all. Bring family and friends for an evening to remember. All visitors are also invited to a reception immediately following at nearby St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
