CRESTMONT COLLEGE’S LOCATION is ideal for a wide range of activities including conferences, spiritual retreats, workshops and meetings.

Crestmont College’s partially remodeled Richard E. Holz Conference Center has been a hidden jewel in the Western Territory, but that is fast changing, according to Conference Center Director Duncan Sutton.

Hired in June 2001 to manage the Center, which is located on the 44-acre campus of Crestmont College in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Sutton says that it is becoming extremely popular with both Army and non-Army groups. “We have one of the most beautiful sites in the Western Territory,” Sutton said. “We’re away from the mainstream but still convenient to Los Angeles International Airport and the attractions of Southern California. And our guests find the amenities excellent for the price. We’re much less expensive than a hotel.”

The Conference Center, on the cliffs overlooking the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, offers single rooms and 2-bedroom suites, all with private bathrooms. A full-service catering plan supplies meals in the main college dining room or private dining areas, and near-complete renovations are adding a comfortable lounge with TV, a small eating area for breakfast and snacks, and phones and data ports for all guest rooms. Meeting and lecture rooms can accommodate groups up to 150, and conference guests may also use the campus library, workout room and other modest athletic facilities, the college chapel, and the Western territorial museum.

The warm welcome accorded to guests is an important feature of the Center, according to Sutton, a fourth-generation Salvationist. “Army or not, we want people to feel part of the college, whether they are here for spiritual retreats, classes and workshops or full conferences,” Sutton said. “We’ve had Salvation Army groups from all over the territory as well as outside groups from local colleges, churches and other organizations. Everyone has said they felt welcome; they know they are sharing the campus with other residential students, and that helps make it the perfect place for learning and reflection.”
