Bush picks Vasquez for Peace Corps

Salvation Army National Advisory Board (NAB) member Gaddi Vasquez has been nominated by President George W. Bush to be director of the Peace Corps.

Vasquez, 46, who was recently appointed to the NAB, has been a member of the Orange County, CA, Advisory Board since 1992.

“As an Orange County Advisory Board member, Gaddi has demonstrated both quality leadership and commitment to the service of others,” said Orange County Coordinator Captain Lee Lescano. “He will do well in this important appointment.”

In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Vasquez said, “I’m honored to be nominated by the president. I’m looking forward to the confirmation process.”

He is a division vice-president in the public affairs department of Southern California Edison and has been named one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States six times by Hispanic Business Magazine.

Married, with one son, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in public service management from University of Redlands.
