Burrows leads Colorado meetings

GENERAL EVA BURROWS (Ret.), center, enrolls senior soldiers at a recent meeting in Colorado Springs.


During a recent visit to Colorado, General Eva Burrows (Ret.) led worship for the combined congregations of the Colorado Springs Corps, corps officers Majors David and Janet Howarth, and the Fountain Valley Corps, corps officers Captains Rio and Rachel Ray.

El Paso County Coordinator Major Joe Hoogstad, knowing she would be in town for the International Bible Society (IBS) board meeting, invited her to lead the meeting. Burrows has served on the board of the IBS for the last ten years.

After the scripture reading from Romans 10: 9-15, Burrows spoke, building her message from the verses of the Founder’s Song. She challenged and encouraged the congregation to respond to the ocean-like love of God by receiving his salvation—to “plunge ‘neath the waters” rather than be content with the shallows. Several people sought Christ at the mercy seat, before the congregation rejoiced in singing “O Boundless Salvation” (the Founder’s Song).

The enrolling of five senior soldiers was a highlight of the meeting. Burrows enrolled Robert Austin, Michael Davies, Mary Hodges and Larry Rowley for the Colorado Springs Corps, and Byron Vangilder for the Fountain Valley Corps.

While in the area, Burrows dined with El Paso County Executive Board members and spoke at a reception hosted by the Advisory Board and the Women’s Auxiliary with the pastoral care and corps councils of each corps present. Special guests from local ministries and companies included Global Action, Focus on the Family and Qwest. During her address to the group, Burrows thanked them for their participation in Salvation Army activities and commended the Army in America for touching the lives of so many, while encouraging all to remain focused on the Army’s spiritual mission.
