June 14

Newspaper headlines are filled with violence, killing, and robberies. Television screens are saturated with talk shows and soap operas. Daily life is permeated with tragedy, injury and disease. Wouldn’t it be good to hear about young people standing up for something wholesome, and inspiring to know that men and women are taking the claims of Christ into the world?

I have some good news for you. On Sunday, June 14, 1998, 37 Builders of the Kingdom cadets will celebrate the culmination of their training and be sent out to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. These 37 men and women have traded their homes, jobs, families, and worldly aspirations for the rigors of Salvation Army officership. For the past two years, these Builders of the Kingdom have trained their minds, disciplined their hearts, and strengthened their determination for one single purpose–to take the Light of God into a dark and perverse generation.

In the Sunday morning service at Commissioning, June 14, 1998, Commis-sioner David Edwards will culminate the preparation of the Builders of the Kingdom session of cadets by ordaining them as ministers of the Gospel and commissioning them as lieutenants of The Salvation Army, Western Territory. In the afternoon Service of Appointment, Edwards will assign each new lieutenant to his or her first official appointment.

Both services will be held at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, in Cerritos, California. Come to these services on Sunday, June 14, 1998. I am certain their commitment will inspire you, their dedication will excite you, and their joy will thrill you. See your corps officer today for the details of these great events.
