Fox Sports host donates to Army in Sacramento

Fox Sports talk show host and former NBA star John Salley recently announced that he has selected The Salvation Army in Sacramento to receive an appliance donation. During the taping of the cable television program Best Damn Sports Show Period, Salley said The Salvation Army was his choice to receive a new refrigerator and washer/dryer set.
In a generous effort to support the charities of the show’s hosts, Chris Rose, John Salley, Rodney Peete and Rob Dibble, the electronic superstore Best Buy will be donating appliances in a demonstration of community outreach.
“It’s an honor to have John Salley donate the items to The Salvation Army,” said Captain John Brackenbury, Sacramento County program coordinator. “We really appreciate his generosity and interest in what we do in Sacramento County.”
The new appliances will go to The Salvation Army’s education and recreation programs, located at the Alhambra campus in Sacramento. The education program consists of a preschool, before and after-school childcare, and an inter-session program. Youth and adult basketball, cheerleading, martial arts and badminton are some of the activities that make up the recreation program.
For Salley, The Salvation Army is close to his heart. His brother, Jerry, works for The Salvation Army as its director of youth services at the Ray Robinson Oak Park Community Center.
Prior to his current position with Fox Sports Net, John Salley played 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association, and contributed to several world championship teams: Detroit Pistons (1989 and 1990), Chicago Bulls (1996) and Los Angeles Lakers (2000).
