The Salvation Army is continuing extensive response operations across the Dallas area in the wake of this week’s tornadoes.
Beginning Monday, residents of some of the most heavily impacted communities were allowed back to inspect and begin salvaging belongings from their homes for the first time since the storms hit on Saturday evening.
Five Salvation Army mobile feeding units have been roving in these neighborhoods providing meals in Garland, Rowlett, the Ovilla/Glenn Heights area and Collin County. Emotional and spiritual care teams are also in place in these communities.
Mobile kitchens will continue to provide meals for first responders and survivors on Wednesday in addition to fixed feedings sites at several locations.
The Salvation Army is working closely with local emergency managers and task force partners including the American Red Cross to staff any resource centers that will provide emergency financial assistance or other essential needs.
Since Saturday evening The Salvation Army has provided 1,668 meals, 7540 drinks, 10,585 snacks, 1,600 clean-up kits, 800 hygiene kits and 50 cases of water.
The Salvation Army is also serving meals to residents in the town of Electra, located northwest of Wichita Falls, which experienced widespread power outages.
