In early October, 47 cadets from the College for Officer Training at Crestmont, in six brigade formations under the leadership of Majors Steve and Marcia Smith, invaded San Francisco for their Fall Blitz Evangelistic Campaign.

“Being a Salvationist for only two years, I valued this time in San Francisco,” Cadet Maureen Lawliss said. “I lived in the Bay Area for almost 20 years so this was like going home; it was encouraging to be there in the context of a thriving ministry with The Salvation Army.”

Supported by Divisional Leaders Majors Joe and Shawn Posillico and the Golden State divisional staff, the brigades visited seven intercity corps: SF Asian American Yerba Buena Corps, SF Chinatown Corps, SF Mission Corps, SF Korean Corps, SF Lighthouse Corps, SF Kroc Corps and South San Francisco Citadel Corps. On Friday night the cadets made contact with 180 homeless individuals and passed out warm socks and other personal items. Other ministries included: park open airs, children’s carnivals, Home League meetings, Feed the Need program in a corps parking lot, Silvercrest visitation, street meetings, door-to-door visitation, youth meetings and holiness meetings. During the Sunday March of Witness, an estimated 7,000 people saw the yellow, red and blue of the Army flags triumphantly emblazoned in the afternoon sky as the soldiers of Jesus Christ marched through the streets of Chinatown.

“I experienced a sense of awe marching up and down the streets of Chinatown in San Francisco,” said Cadet Kari Rudd. “The flags were waving in front of me, the band was proudly playing behind me, and we were marching in step down one of the most historically prominent cities in the United States of America. It was a memory of memoriesthank you Lord.”
