The Pasadena Tabernacle Corps, Calif., recently hosted a capacity crowd, who shared in a “Festival of Praise” given by the over 100 young musicians of the Eastern Michigan Divisional Youth Band (EMDYB)—in town to participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade—and the Pasadena Tabernacle Youth Chorus (PTYC).

The band, whose reputation preceded them, played superbly. Their program included Army classics, contemporary arrangements, classical transcriptions and a song that was a “little bit country.”

The youth chorus, accompanied at times by full brass, saxophone and rhythm section, also sang superbly, cementing further the reputation that this relatively new group has begun to build.

Both groups received a standing ovation at the conclusion of the program.

The evening also featured the launch of the Rose Parade Alumni Association by Major Paul Seiler, Southern California divisional commander, and Helen Ridgewell, Tustin Ranch, and a special collection was taken to sponsor young Salvationist musicians in the South American West Territory, particularly those wishing to attend the territorial music school. Over $1,000 was collected.

Although we give God all the glory, we recognize the musicians for their hard work and preparation, and the leaders, Greg Payton (EMDYB) and Barbara Allen (PTYC). Also supporting the evening were Territorial Music Secretary Neil Smith and Southern California Music Leaders Kevin and Jacqui Larsson.

The youth band’s recording Elevation is available by contacting the Eastern Michigan Divisional Music Director, Ben Howard (Ben_Howard@usc.salvationarmy.org).
