PROMOTED TO GLORY

Brigadier Mable Evangeline Ford (R)
recently heard the trumpets sounding and peacefully went to be with her Lord. She was the oldest living retired officer in the Western Territory.

Mable was born in Ishpeming, Mich., in 1901 to Salvationist parents. They moved to Vancouver, Wash., when Mable was seven.

A Christian worker from early girlhood, she entered the Training College in Chicago and was commissioned in 1920. One year later she married Captain Clarence Ford, and their first son, Clarence, was born at their first post, Roseburg, Ore. Two more children completed the family. Though also serving in Northern and Southern California, they completed their career in the Oregon-Southern Idaho Division.

In her last hours she spoke of “going to be with the Lord,” and wanted them to be sure her uniform was clean. She slipped quietly away in her sleep.

She was a very giving and caring person, who will be missed by her family and special friends such as John and Linda Waterton. She also leaves eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one “great-great.”

A memorial service was held at Portland Tabernacle Corps, with Colonel Bill D. Luttrell, chief secretary, officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to daughter Esther Fistrup, 6600 Telephone, #808, Ventura CA 93003 and son Ron Ford at 351 Loach Place, Vancouver BC V7G 2A3, Canada.
