The Del Oro Division has enjoyed long-standing partnerships with many of the service-oriented clubs in our area. All have made significant contributions to our efforts, especially over the Christmas season.
But at this time, we wanted to give a special highlight and thanks to the Rotary Club of East Sacramento. Each year, members of the East Sacramento Rotary volunteer to ring bells at our kettles. Plus, they always establish a very aggressive collection goal. For instance, in 2001, the kettle goal was $10,000, and if this goal was met, the president of the club agreed to have his head shaved. Sure enough…they reached their goal by raising over $12,000 and the then-president, Keith McBride, proudly shaved his head at one of their luncheons.
For the 2002 Christmas season, the current president, Virginia (Ginny) Porter said she would dye her hair blue for an entire month once the $10,000 goal was reached. Good news! The East Sacramento Rotary raised $10,100–just enough for the hair dyeing to begin! So Ginny upheld her end of the agreement and dyed her hair “Smurf” blue.
Captain Doug Riley, divisional secretary, Emily Miller, volunteer coordinator, and Krista Noonan attended the East Sacramento Rotary luncheon and presented the club with a special recognition award for all of their hard efforts in support of The Salvation Army. They also presented Karl Dinse, the East Sacramento Rotary Committee Chair for the fundraiser as well as a long-standing TSA Sacramento Metro Advisory Board member, a token of gratitude.
