The Salvation Army joins relief team to provide assistance in the community.
Phoenix, AZ (July 01, 2013) – The Salvation Army has responded to a request for aid in the Yarnell Hill Fire that claimed the lives of 19 firefighters. The blaze grew past 8,300 acres as temperatures were expected to reach 100 degrees.
The Salvation Army is providing various forms of recovery assistance to those affected by the fire. The Salvation Army in Prescott is doing social service intake for families affected by the fire to provide for immediate needs and offer spiritual support. In addition, The Salvation Army in Wickenburg is providing intake as Route 89 is closed and many evacuees cannot get to Prescott.
Beginning Tuesday, July 2, The Salvation Army canteens will begin providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for up to 100 people. Recovery efforts are expected to be long-term and The Salvation Army plans to be present as long as there is a need.
