Spokane Women’s Auxiliary raises $55,000 for Camp Gifford

The Spokane Women’s Auxiliary recently held its 15th annual Golf Tournament and Auction to benefit Camp Gifford, a corps sponsored camp.

In 1986, its first year, the event raised $1,000. This year, the tournament brought in over $55,000! To date, the auxiliary has raised over $500,000 to benefit the camp.

The community support for the event was strong. Major sponsors were Trans-System, Inc. and KXLY Broadcast Group. MMI International and Pacific Detroit Diesel Allison were associate sponsors, along with 21 Tee and 17 Pennant sponsors. The tournament was also supported by the Spokane Trucking industry.

Under President Agnes Grineau’s leadership, the 32-member Spokane Women’s Auxiliary began preparations last October for the auction dinner, attended by over 250 people, and the Golf Classic Tournament, with 140 players.

“The Army is blessed to have the support of this auxiliary. I am constantly amazed at their dedication to Camp Gifford,” stated Major JoAnn Markham, Spokane corps officer. “These women have a big heart for children and for making a difference in their lives.”

Located by Deer Lake, Camp Gifford has served children from the Northwest since the 1920s. Each year over 1,000 children from Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, and Western Montana attend the camp.

Women’s Auxiliary funds have provided a climbing tower, new ropes course, wilderness program for teens, boating and recreational equipment, and a new dining hall.
