Service Corps Teams Identified and Assigned

The Territorial Youth and Candidates’ Department has announced the 1998 Service Corps teams. Twenty-seven young adults, ranging in age from 17 to 30, will represent the Western Territory as it reaches out to share the good news of Jesus Christ through a ministry of service.

The teams will be presented at Commissioning. On the following Monday, members will gather for three days of orientation before departing on June 18. They will return for debriefing the first part of August. Each team will be involved in activities and programs ranging from children’s camps to adult Bible studies, open-air meeting, food service programs and many other special events.

The Alaskan team, under the leadership of Melissa Seid, will serve among the Army’s southeastern corps (exact locations to be announced). Team members include Evelyn Gee, D’Andra Cecil, Sandy Carpenter, and Marianne Whitfield.

The Pacific Islands team will be spending the summer in the Marshall Islands working at the different corps. Cari Hogan is the team leader, with members including Timothy Carr, Heather Lowcock, Keisha Raven, and Aaron Wheeler.

Julie McDougald will once again provide leadership for the Caribbean team. Team members Joy Leslie, Andre Wallace, Nichole Luschenat, Craig Summerfield, and Amber Wheeler will participate in a Youth Summit while in Montego Bay, Jamaica, as well as minister in Barbados and Guyana. The team will work with Majors Neil and Beth Saunders (Western Territory) who serve in that command.

Cory Peacock is leader for the Philippines. Members Sarah Arvizu, Joy Raven, Jennifer Cabrejas, Paul Hernandez, and Shoshannah Begonia will participate in many aspects of corps program activities. Territorial leaders Colonels Robert and Carol Saunders (Western Territory) will be hosting the team.

San Francisco is the assignment for the inner-city team under the leadership of Eric Bradley. Team members include Adriana Bradley, Sam LeMar, Sherry Smith, and Daisy Marshall. This team will focus on many of the social programs the Army operates in the area, as well as activities at inner-city corps.

Major Rudy Hedgren, territorial youth and candidates’ secretary, states “We are very excited at the wonderful opportunities of service available this year through our service corps program. It is our hope and prayer that through their experiences, members will see a broader vision of a world in need.”
