SAWSO offers support to Mexico

The Salvation Army World Service Office (SAWSO) provided $20,000 to the Mexico Territory to support communities affected by Hurricane Patricia.

Considered the most powerful hurricane in history, Patricia made landfall as a category 5 hurricane Oct. 23, causing flooding and destroying homes in many small villages and communities around the city of Manzanillo, where nearly 400,000 people are estimated to live.

Working in conjunction with Civil Defense and in partnership with the Red Cross, The Salvation Army in Mexico mobilized immediately and has been delivering meals and beverages to individuals in the affected areas, as well as offering emotional and spiritual support.

Financial support from SAWSO will support the community of Cofradia de Morelos with hot meals as well as roofing materials, and cleaning and hygiene materials.

The Salvation Army in Mexico is also reaching out to other communities near Cofradia de Morelos suffering flooding and destruction to see how they might be helped with material support.
