Roseville Corps, Macy’s ‘bag hunger’

MACY*S IN CITRUS HEIGHTS collected over 15,851 pounds of food for the Roseville Corps.


The Salvation Army Roseville Corps partnered with their local Macy’s department store recently for the 2004 “Bag Hunger” Campaign to collect much-needed food items and donations. This annual program is operated by the nationwide network of Federated Department Stores (Macy*s is a member of the chain of retailers).

For the 2003-04 campaign, the collection by the Macy*s store in Citrus Heights, Calif. was one of the largest out of all of the Federated Department Stores, collecting over 15,851 pounds of food (a combination of cash and canned items) for The Salvation Army Roseville Corps—a 50% increase over 2002-03 donations.

Captain Kris Potter, Roseville Corps officer, works extensively with his local Macy*s contact, Cori Duncan, to provide shopping lists so the donations are targeted to the specific needs of the food pantry, corps kitchen, and family food boxes. This year, the Macy*s store associates donated an average of 38 pounds of food per person. Plus, many associates made individual donations of $50 or more. Because of their donation level, Federated Department Stores offered a company match program and contributed an additional $2,000 cash to the program.

The Salvation Army Roseville Corps and Macy*s in Citrus Heights will be partnering once again for the 2005 “Bag Hunger” Campaign to stock the food pantry shelves. “I must say, I already can’t wait until next year. I know the results will be even greater!” stated Duncan.
