Promoted to Glory

LILA GRACE MISNER

Lila Grace Misner, a long-time soldier, of the Vancouver, Wash. Corps, was promoted to Glory on August 17, 2006.

Born in 1924, Lila began attending The Salvation Army as a young teen in Centralia, Wash., where she was enrolled as a soldier and became a corps cadet. She met her husband, Cecil, through the Army. Cecil and Lila married in 1942, and raised their five children to love and serve the Lord. During those years, Lila taught Sunday school, summer Bible school, sang in the choir, served in the church kitchen, and helped to beautify the church grounds.

Lila loved serving others, finding great joy in preparing and serving meals for folks at church. She liked seeing others enjoying themselves while she worked behind the scenes. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing hymns that honored the name and work of Jesus Christ.

Lila was a socially minded woman who loved The Salvation Army’s Home League, serving as the home league secretary in Vancouver, Wash. for the past 13 years, as well as for several years in Eugene, Ore. She and Cecil spent many holiday seasons standing kettles and working at the Army’s Christmas distribution warehouse.
Lila is survived by Cecil, her devoted husband of 64 years; their five children: Nancy Cowan, Steven Misner, Dennis Misner, Cecil Misner Jr., and Ilene Smith; their grandchildren: Steven, Benjamin, Emily and Ellie; and her half brother and half sister: George and Willene Ward.

A memorial service was held at the Vancouver, Wash., corps, with Captain Ronald Fenrich officiating.
