Modesto Citadel ‘Dash for Cash’ rings in $111,000

In just seven minutes $111,000 was raised during Modesto, Calif.’s annual kettle kick-off, the “Dash for Cash.” The 10th anniversary kick-off, hosted by the Modesto Citadel Corps under the leadership of Captains Mike and Cindy Dickinson, saw 820 people gather in support of the ministry of The Salvation Army.

During the program, Golden State Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Richard Love presented special awards. Recipients included Mrs. Marjean Miller, longtime member of the Modesto Citadel Advisory Board, Women’s Auxiliary and Red Shield Advisory Council. Mr. Ralph Morgan, a member of the Citadel Advisory Board since 1968, was presented a lifetime membership.

Mr. Richard Hagerty, Citadel Advisory board treasurer and National Advisory Board member, gave the Modesto Annual Report.

Majors Paul and Carol Seiler, territorial secretary of personnel and assistant chief secretary for strategic planning, respectively, represented territorial headquarters.

The “Modesto Christmas Angels,” Mrs. Bette Belle Smith,

Mrs. Marie Gallo and Mrs. Betty Ustach, had set a goal of $100,000 for the kick-off. Captain Mike Dickinson presented red kettle awards to these three “angels” for their work and support of this event over the past 10 years.

At the signal, the ringing of a large red victory bell, 24 teams of community leaders and business owners scrambled throughout the packed plaza in the “Dash for Cash.” The teams surpassed their goal, raising $111,000 in just seven minutes. The first place team and owners for the next year of the kettle trophy was the Christmas Angels’ team, raising $22, 830.

The 10th Annual Kick-Off was a reminder to all that indeed “Change Begins Here,” wherever you are!
