Las Vegas Salvation Army celebrates new “Hope”

Hope Chapel on the Lied campus in North Las Vegas is dedicated.

A dedication service is held at the new Hope Chapel in Las Vegas, Nev. [by Charles Desiderio].

Recently, before donors, clients, advisory board members and friends from the community, The Salvation Army in Las Vegas dedicated the new Hope Chapel, situated on its Lied campus. The chapel will serve the beneficiaries of the social service programs run on the Lied campus.

Special guests participating in the event included Commissioners Philip and Patricia Swyers, territorial leaders, and Majors Doug and Rhode Danielson, divisional leaders.

Major William Raihl, Clark County coordinator, recognized each individual or group that made this day possible. In the audience were all of the donors who made the chapel a reality along with advisory board and women’s auxiliary members and Salvation Army personnel.

A highlight of the ceremony was the testimony of two clients, Vicki Gauvin and Jim Brunson, who told of the impact of The Salvation Army on their lives.

Praise for the chapel, which has won design awards, continued throughout the event. With the media present, including Fox TV, Swyers and Danielson spoke about the need for the chapel and the work of The Salvation Army in Clark County.

The 5,000-square-foot chapel features a simple contemporary design and includes several sustainable design principles that will decrease operating costs—including cooling costs—and contribute to the city’s rejuvenation of the area.

JVC Architects designed the chapel; Breslin Builders was the general contractor for the construction, which began in fall 2007.
