A young Mexican boy comes of age—for better or worse—in his quest to save the life of his beloved pet goat, Isabel.

In a small village outside Tijuana, a young Mexican boy named Victor lives with his father and beloved pet goat, Isabel. But when his father’s debts catch up with them, they are given an ultimatum: payment in full, or The Collectors take Isabel, and turn her into  (goat stew). As the situation escalates, Victor comes of age–for better or worse–in his quest to save Isabel’s life.

“La Deuda,” was originally acquired for distribution by HBO, and was nominated for the HBO Ibero-American Short Film Award at the Miami International Film Festival in March 2020. The festival was canceled mid-way through the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but “La Deuda” was named a runner-up for the award
