Raul Guerrero

A highlight of Saturday evening’s program was the surprise announcement, amidst cheers and rejoicing, that Raul Guerrero had been admitted to the Order of the Founder.

Commissioner John Larsson, Chief of the Staff, presented Guerrero with the citation after reading its wording “…in recognition of outstanding service to the Latino community in two territories in the name of God and in the highest traditions of The Salvation Army.”

Guerrero, who is in-charge at the El Monte Corps, CA, has for many years faithfully served The Salvation Army in two territories, the Central and Western.

A native of Santiago, Chile, and a tailor by trade, he has provided a significant Christian witness to the business communities in Santiago and Chicago through involvement in local civic and business affairs.

In the Central Territory, Raul was in charge of 12 corps as a volunteeer; during the 1960 Chicago riots he held open-air meetings in a park in the midst of riot activity.

He moved to Southern California in 1986. Since then, he has been instrumental in establishing the Pacoima Outpost (now a corps), reestablishing the Eastmont Corps and founding the El Monte Outpost, which is now a corp as well.

In addition, he meets with local church leaders and conducts prayer meetings; he also meets weekly with corps officers to pray with them.

At 80 years of age, he is a man of God who has given of himself unselfishly; his life testifies to his commitment to the Army and to meeting the needs of others.

 

Lo destacado del programa del Sábado en la noche fue el anuncio sorpresa–entre aclamaciones y regocijo–de que Raúl Guerrero ha sido ingresado a la Orden del Fundador.

El Comisionado John Larsson, Jefe del Estado Mayor, entregó la invocación a Guerrero después de leer las palabras de su contenido, “…en reconocimiento al servicio destacado, en nombre de Dios y en la alta tradición del Ejército de Salvación, hacia la comunidad Latina de dos territorios.”

Guerrero, está hoy a cargo del Cuerpo El Monte, CA, ha servido fielmente por muchos años al Ejército de Salvación en ambos: el Territorio Central y del Oeste.

Él es natural de Santiago, Chile, sastre de oficio; ha provisto un testimonio cristiano significante a las comunidades empresarial en Santiago y Chicago, involucrándose en actividades cívicas y empresariales.

En el Territorio Central, Raúl estuvo a cargo de 12 cuerpos como voluntario; durante una revuelta en Chicago en 1960, él llevó a cabo servicios al aire libre en un parque en medio del disturbio.

Se mudó al Sur de California en el 1986. Desde entonces, él ha sido instrumental en el establecimiento de la Avanzada Pacoima (es hoy un cuerpo), reestableció el Cuerpo de Eastmont y fundó la Avanzada El Monte, que es hoy un cuerpo nuevo.

En adición a esto, él se reúne con líderes de iglesias locales y lleva a cabo reuniones de oración; además él se reúne semanalmente con oficiales de cuerpos para orar con ellos.

A los 80 años de edad, Raúl es un hombre de Dios que se ha entregado desprendidamente; su vida testifica de su compromiso con el Ejército, llenando las necesidades de los demás.
