General Shaw Clifton has convened a meeting of the most senior leaders of The Salvation Army to gather in London, England from Tuesday, July 7 to Monday, July 13, 2009.

The International Conference of Leaders (ICL) brings together Salvation Army leaders from every territory and command in the world, including senior officers from International Headquarters. The total number attending will be 135, including the General, the World President of Women’s Ministries and the Chief of the Staff.

“Commissioner Pat and I look forward to the International Leaders Conference for the spiritual refreshment that we will receive from the Lord as we join together with our associates around the world. Nothing beats the international fellowship. We anticipate understanding global issues and seeking God’s direction in the role of how the West can be a part of the solution. July can’t come soon enough,” said Commissioner Philip Swyers.

The main purpose of the conference will be to seek the guidance of God for the future witness and service of the Army globally. The conference will also address current international issues that affect the life and work of The Salvation Army around the world. The event provides also a valuable opportunity for senior leaders to meet one another in Christian fellowship, to be in prayer together, and to feed upon God’s word.

A report of the work of the ICL will be shared with the wider Army later this year.

Meanwhile, the General is requesting widespread prayer support for this key event both in these months of preparation and for the days of the conference itself.
