Novato

Rita Winesberry, the newest soldier at the Novato, Calif., corps, was born and raised in Oklahoma until the age of 19. Her father is a third generation chief of the Cheyenne Indian tribe. This makes her a true princess, but not equal to the males of her tribe. Her brothers are currently chiefs.

Rita found the Lord during her freshman year at the Oklahoma Bible Academy, where she attended high school. After a year at Cook Christian Training School, she went to San Francisco to learn the seamstress trade, with the goal of serving in Africa with the Peace Corps.

During this time Rita met her husband, had eight children, and divorced. She also learned that nursing is her love. Always, Jesus was there for her through all her trials. After attending the Army periodically in San Rafael, she moved to Novato in 1989 and began attending the local corps.

Rita feels that God has sent the “white man” to America to share the good news about Jesus. God made a way for the persecuted Christians to escape to the new world. She feels that the Christians in America today should be reminded of their heritage; and this is her goal…to remind her own people and others in America that Jesus is Lord of all!
